Enterprise marketing experience, applied exclusively to UK exterior trades.
Most of the best people in marketing avoid the trades. I went the other way.
I have personally managed over £35 million in marketing spend across Google, Meta, display, and other paid channels, generating over £165 million in revenue and over 100,000 qualified leads for household-name UK businesses. I now apply that expertise exclusively to UK exterior trades, and I only get paid when my clients do.
Most of the talented people in the marketing industry chase household-name brands because the client list is social currency. I did that for years. Then I looked at where serious expertise was not going, and saw that UK exterior trades businesses, the backbone of how British homes get built and maintained, were being served almost exclusively by people who had watched a course on YouTube and started an agency, or by big agencies who would hand their accounts to a junior six months out of training. The industry had decided these businesses were not worth its best people. I decided they were.
I started The Exteriors Engine because I wanted my own freedom. I had spent years inside an agency structure and I wanted to build something I owned, on terms I set. The interesting thing about the trades market, when I looked at it honestly, was that the business owners I would be talking to wanted exactly the same thing. They were on the tools, working long hours, trying to build something bigger than themselves, looking for a way to stop being personally responsible for every quote and every job. Their freedom and mine turned out to be the same kind of freedom.
How I got here.
8 years of marketing experience, start to now.
Started in marketing
Began running campaigns for small businesses in Manchester. Quickly realised marketing was the work where if you can read the data, the data tells you what to do.
Hired by a top-10 UK agency
Interviewed at one of the UK's top 10 agencies ranked by Google. Brought a full breakdown of their client accounts to the interview. They cancelled their other interviews and offered the job on the spot.
£2M/month in client spend
Promoted from specialist to manager faster than the people who had been there longer. Sat in strategy meetings at Google's offices. Managed campaigns for household-name UK businesses.
Went independent
Left to build something on my own terms. The agency asked me back as a freelance contractor because their biggest clients could not be transitioned without losing performance. I still work with them today.
The Exteriors Engine
Took the same enterprise expertise and pointed it at UK exterior trades. One client per trade per postcode. Paid only when clients earn.
The standard the work is held to.
Honest both ways, or not at all.
We tell clients the truth. We expect the same. If a campaign is failing, the client hears it from us before they spot it themselves.
Partners, not bosses.
We work with clients, not for them. Disagreements get talked through, not shouted through. Neither side dictates to the other.
Excellence or nothing.
No tactics we would be embarrassed to be caught using. No fake reviews, no manufactured urgency, no recycled leads. The work has to be defensible in public.
